Yesterday's action at the P2 in Brussels gave us unforgettable matches and set up thrilling semifinals! At PADEL RED, we bring you the key highlights from the exciting Premier Padel P2 Brussels quarterfinals.
🔥 Women's Draw
In the women's draw, the Number 1s, Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez, had to dig deep and put the pedal to the metal to defeat the combative pair Icardo - Jensen. The match, which seemed to be going in favor of Paula and Ari, ended up going to three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4), showcasing the level and fighting spirit of the Spanish-Argentine duo. However, the solid play of the top-ranked pair prevailed. A warning shot for everyone!
Meanwhile, Alejandra Salazar and Verónica Virseda continue to show their excellent form. With solid, well-coordinated play, they confidently overcame one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, the rising pair Borrero - Calvo, making it clear that they are serious title contenders.
The other two women’s matches didn’t have much drama in the scoreline, but they gave us one certainty: we’ll have a new chapter in the rivalry between Gemma Triay - Delfi Brea and Claudia Fernández and Bea González, re-editing the thrilling clash we saw in Riyadh, where Bea and Claudia took the win. Get ready for a train crash between ex-teammates!
🏓 Men's Draw
If the women’s draw gave us intense emotions, the men’s draw didn’t fall short. Every quarterfinal match went to a third set except one, and what a set of matches we had!
Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto made their way to the semifinals against a combative Momo González and Jon Sanz, although the Spanish pair almost forced a third set after a very close second set with multiple break points. The Galán-Chingotto connection remains dominant!
Another ex-teammates duel went in favor of the new duo: Juan Tello and Martín Di Nenno defeated Alex Ruiz and Juan Lebrón. Martín and Juan continue to show great on-court chemistry and transmit fantastic vibes. These are Martín Di Nenno's first semifinals of the season, and he couldn’t hide his happiness at the end of the match. Congrats, Martín!
The surprise of the day came from Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini, who eliminated the top seeds Yanguas and Coki (who won’t play the semifinals for the first time this season). And it wasn’t just any match! After dropping the first set, Paquito and Bergamini stepped up their game, making a great comeback and booking their spot in the semifinals, their first of the season. An elated Bergamini said after the match that he is “in the best moment of his career,” something that was clear in the incredible display of play they offered.
And to top off a spectacular day, the match everyone was waiting for – which will become one of the great rivalries of the circuit – did not disappoint. The Number 1s, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, faced off against the tough Cardona and Augsburger in a beautiful, back-and-forth match. The first set went to Leo and Pablo, but after this small setback, Tapia and Coello showed unbeatable solidity, securing two quick breaks at the start of the next two sets to claim victory and their ticket to the semifinals.
